how-to chiffonade

This is just a simple how-to post. This one involves how to slice herbs into neat little strips called a chiffonade. The easiest to demonstrate with is basil- the flavorful herb you see above. The first step is to layer up the leave into a little stack.
The next step is to roll that little stack up as tightly as possible. This way, all those layers overlap again and again.
Next, make thin slices all the way down the roll- as thin as you can! Grab that freshly sliced little bundle and roll it between your fingers. Voila! You will have a nice pile of basil chiffonade!
